Plumes

I've been wasting a lot of time trying to draw plumes effectively. I tried doing a feather, drawing it on both sides of the paper, Cutting round the top of the feather, with tape, sticking some thread so I can fold it over to see what really happens.

Pulled over to the left

Pulled over straight down
Pulled over to the right.
And just drawn with what 'felt' right.

I'm going round in circles over this. It should be so simple but these things never are.....

  2. Wooooah! What lengths to go to, but the drawing does look reallyg reat! Now, why can't I think of these things, - note to self, plan more!

  3. Doesn't it just drive you nuts when it should be so simple and straightforward?! Think your last version is probably (imho) nearest the mark. One of my very first students "got" it almost straightaway (gnashing of teeth) - if you have "Essential Quilter" her drawing is shown on p117.

  4. I think you've done a splendid job of the curling feather. It looks good, and you should be delighted! If you can manage to capture the darker tones underneath when you quilt, it will look really 3D
