I am feeling a little overwhelmed by how little I have done.

A week since my last post and I have not even finished one border of the Di Ford Mystery Quilt.
And then there are all the UFOs.

There's this one,

and
and
and the low contrast one which is probably an abandoned one rather than a UFO or Work in Progress.
I should concentrate more.

  1. I hope you haven't abandoned the low contrast one - it is lovely and once it is quilted, the contrast issue will be fixed! I hope you come back to it - I think it could be a winner.

Sometimes you just need some time to let your work ideas develop, no matter how unaware you are of it at the time, rather than constantly making the pieces.

  2. The quality of your beautiful work is worth so much more than quantity - and wonderful work results from plenty of reflection and adequate rest. So, be kind to yourself and to we mere mortals who have nothing like to show for ourselves!

  4. Sally,
Love all these projects you have going, especially the two with the flowers in pots.. Fabulous! Hope you get a second wind and work on them all.

  5. The low contrast quilt is beautiful. If you want the pieces to stand out more, you might consider embroidering an outline around all of them -- one strand in a slightly darker/brighter color.

  6. I agree with "Maddie Can Fly" add some stitching even a simple backstitch around the elements and they will pop.

  7. Such lovely work, Sally! If you are feeling overwhelmed, why not just put everything away except one project - out of sight, out of mind? Then if you decide that you are trying to work on the 'wrong one' you can just switch a different one out.

Hope that you are able to sit back and realise how much you have done on all these pieces overall. It doesn't matter about week to week progress, just that you enjoy what you do. If you get tired or overwhelmed don't beat yourself up! It's fine to take a break, take a breath, and relax!

  9. I agree with not abandoning the low value contrast quilt. I agree a greater contrast would have worked better, but there is also something to be said about the look as it is. I might consider outlining some of the units with embroidery to add just a little more depth and perception.

  12. No wonder you have so many WIP, your quilts are so intricate and detailed, it's well worth the effort, they all look so lovely.

  13. I feel your pain!! As a quilt making teacher for 35 years, not only do I easily own over 50 UFO's (40 tops ready to be quilted alone) but I've contributed to hundreds of students and customers UFO's by encouraging them to start yet another quilt -- can you imagine? (-: So I just keep stitching, day in and day out.

  14. Forgot to say -- for what it's worth, it seems to me that the low-volume piece just needs a simple border to keep the focus on the beautiful center -- first I thought pink, but the more I look at it, I think a medium gray might be better.

  15. Took me way too long to visit your blog. What fun to see all your projects - & to realize we are about at the same spot on the Mystery quilt borders. Feeling overwhelmed here too - sometimes we just need to step back and take a deep breath.
