I invested in a proper photographic quilt frame from Procameras
It's the same as a normal frame photographers use for hanging their backgrounds but with a steel rail along the top rather than an aluminium one so it will take the extra weight of a quilt. The chap was extremely helpful, including the advice never to lend it out to other quilters........ 'nough said.
It has a slight wave across the bottom but it didn't come straight from the floor to the frame and had been left rolled and had somewhat 'collapsed on itself.
I'm pleased with the back except this Moda backing is showing some of the colours of the front through it. Perhaps a heavier batting or a synthetic one would have avoided this.
Sally, it is looking just fab.-------you must be so pleased :-)
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great! I love the colors in it!
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you for not loaning the fram out....another thing that might help (with the lighting) is to place the frame in a source of natural light...maybe outside or near a window...most [stock] camera flashes are not capable of putting out enough light for such a large area.
Wow - absolutely stunning. I love the frame for taking the pictures...very useful...and you are right..best to keep it away from other quilters ;o)
ReplyDeleteIncredible! It's stunning!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderfully well it turned out! You are very accomplished. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAn absolutely wonderful quilt! Thank you for sharing your talents!
ReplyDeleteOh, it is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! I am in awe and very inspired - thank you for sharing this :-)
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous!!! Love the design, but the quilting on the back says it all!
ReplyDeleteOH, BTW you asked about Cool Whip. It's a brand of whipping cream in the U.S. In the U.K. you would have double cream. Here's a recipe for it

Sally,
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is outstanding! I remember when the fabric was on the bolt. I have watched you step by step making this quilt. You are very gifted and have made one of the most beautiful and original Feathered Star quilts. What makes it even more fantastic is how you quilted it on your Bernina not a longarm.
Cari from Northern California
Spectacular!
ReplyDeleteYour frame arrived quickly! Seems we were only talking about it yesterday (but I squeezed in a trip to the Wealden Quilt Show and nealy 750 miles driving in between).
ReplyDeleteI agree with the not lending it rule - also be careful if you put it up with another person doing the other end tripod. You'd lend it to ME though wouldn't you? (VBG)
Found my way over to see your quilt from Vicki's blog. All I can say about your quilt is WOW!!!It is beautiful! I have always loved the Feathered Star pattern and have plans to make a quilt using that pattern in the future.
ReplyDeleteIt shows up even better on the frame. That would be a great thing to have.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! You did a fabulous job on everything....I really love it. :)
ReplyDeleteStunning....... Ronda K beyer
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteI just lost the screw thread at the top of one of stands when it fell over in a gust of wind last week.(I was trying to photograph a quilt outside) It bent so I straightened it and sheared it off in the process! So be careful with the ends!
Gorgeous quilt! woohoo! just found your blog. yippee!
