Scissorhands Sally

I am always up for gadgets and gizmo's which might make my life a little easier. So when I saw this little fingertip control mini rotary cutter by Fiskars, I had to try it.

I thought it would be great for fussy cutting. It has a ring part which slips over your index finger and you point and cut.
It has a little cover over the blade. I felt I was dicing with death removing it. The control is good, if you start in the right place. It might have had more success if I had been standing over it on my cutting table. If you are like me and use your hands a lot whilst talking, then you probably need to be alone in a room whilst using it. I might use it again but probably not, it scares the living daylights out of me. Even putting the cover back on felt risky.
I have done a few more fussy cut stars.

  1. I bought one years ago and have the same thoughts about it. It did come in handy when I was doing a Hawaiian style quilt and had to cut through 8 layer of fabric to get the papercut designs cut out.

  2. love how your stars are coming along! I tried this little tool and though I did like how it cut it was just too easy to forget I had it on my finger...I pushed up the sleeve of my sweater while still wearing it and sliced the cuff of my sweater (luckily I just brushed the skin on my arm!) Just think I'm not coordinated enough for this tool!

  4. The words 'point and cut' - no, not a good idea for me, I manage to injure myself with mere scissors & once sliced the tip of my finger off with a scalpel. Imagine if you went to scratch your nose without thinking....

  5. Gorgeous stars! Sounds like you were living dangerous, not a comfortable feeling when dealing with a sharp object. Thanks for sharing the review.

  6. I think I would be too scared to use it, knowing my absentmindedness! But I love your fussy-cut stars!

  7. Nice job on those wonderful fussy cut stars, Sally! I think I'll skip that cutter, as I can envision bad things happening with it.

  8. Hi Sally sounds like that cutter and I need to be in different rooms I would likely cut more than my sleeve LOL. Your wee stars are adorable looking forward to seeing them on the quilt. Those scissors are something else; they remind me of the Japanese's ones with those handles; where are these ones from???? Hugs Glenda
