I decided to add some circles just to make it a little more complex as this is the centre and the bit people naturally eyeball the most. I have half the circles stitched down and now think the slightly stronger pink of them is too much in comparison to the centre.
To balance this out, I have decided to place smaller blue circles closer to the centre, but shall I go the way of the ones on the left or those on the right? I love deciding these little problems.
And of course I could place one in the very middle to tone down the faded red.........
Thank you for sharing your lovely work, Sally.
ReplyDeleteIt is so interesting to see how you work.
The ones on the left look better to me, a more natural place for them to be
ReplyDeleteWow this looks amazing, thanks for sharring.

Lovely - I vote for the left circles.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joanna - the blue circles on the left look more naturally placed. Or how about pushing the blue circles up into the outer curve of the stripy petals?
ReplyDeleteI think the red in the pink circles looks OK actually. There's similar touches of red in the blue fabric in the centre. Another thing to consider - what's planned for the next part of the applique? The touches of stronger red stop the faded tones of the other fabrics from becoming too washed out while making them look more like genuine faded vintage fabrics than if they were ALL extra pale.
I must be contrary, I thought you all went for the same way that I preferred, but no you all went against me. lols
ReplyDeleteI must be contrary too. I think that the positioning of the circles on the right is more interesting!
ReplyDeleteIt really is coming along beautifully.
My preference is the right, too.
ReplyDeleteHow do you make your little circles? They're so perfect!

Circles are made with 3 layers of freezer paper. The larger ones are the bottom of my pencil sharpener size, the smaller ones a £1 coin (and I have just made one for the middle out of a 1p coin, a bit smaller). I iron to the wrong side, use a glue stick and then use the end of a small screwdriver or a bodkin to even out the spread of the underturn.
ReplyDeleteSally, I also prefer the circles on the left! LOL! As for your central circle, have you thought about perhaps putting another pink circle centered on that one? The red touches on the pink would be accented by the outer "edging" of red and might be quite interesting.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. Soft colors. I like the stripes. Would make a beautiful baby quilt.
ReplyDeleteI think this is wonderful i love your colors it just makes me happy. lisa
ReplyDeleteSally your work is beautiful.

No I prefer the way you prefer Sally, so there you are, another opinion!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful regardless.
I tried commenting last week but the captcha beat me
I'm thinking the circles on the left, but that is because I can see a quilting design easier with that configuration....all looks lovely!
ReplyDeletecheers
I'd like to see them spaced between the outer circles or in them. just to see how they balance the blue in the middle.
